I recently got an invited by a friend who lives in LA (Cara!) to an EP release party in Venice (LA). If you have no clue what that is (I didn’t either), EP stands for ‘Extended Play.’ Still a blank face? Me too. It’s a musical recording that contains more music than a single, but is usually too short to qualify as a full studio album. Thank you Wikipedia.
You can probably guess that since I didn’t know what I was attending, I had even less of a clue about what to wear. I settled on (what I thought) was a safe outfit – flat black boots (no heels, that seemed so NYC) and a long-sleeved black dress (no tights). To be very clear, I did not nail this outfit.
Every single other girl (and guy) went for some combination of denim & flannel – often tied around the waist. Note, I’ve been following @overheardla on Instagram, and I’m pretty convinced that the denim & flannel situation is just a different iteration of the above (‘stay in the Marriott, but don’t wash your hair’).
The following weekend, I was in NYC. I think I was scarred by the EP situation because instead of packing a version of my usual all-black go-to outfits, I showed up with some ripped Frame denim jeans & a jean vest (vintage from Mom, favorite item in my closet right now). Everyone at dinner (okay, two of the girls) commented that I looked ‘SO LA.’
Since I’ve been getting my coasts confused, I thought I’d help a friend out this week!
See below for my future go-to outfits for a night out in NYC vs. a night out in Venice!
